DOLPO REGION

Trek through the hidden valleys of Dolpa, visit the ancient Shey Gompa (The Crystal Monastery), touch the icy waters of  Phoksundo Lake, see yak caravans cross high-Himalayan passes, visit some of the highest settlments on earth like the Dho-Tarap valley; Dolpa will never cease to amaze you.
Dolpa or Dolpo was popularized by the film “Caravan” which showcases the extraordinary untouched beauty of the region.
trekking in dolpa
It is remote and fascinating, confined by the Dhaulagiri range in the south and east, the mountains Sisne and Kanjiroba in the west and Tibet towards the north. Lake Phoksundo with its turquoise waters is the major attraction in Dolpa.
The people of Dolpa generally settle at altitudes of 3,660 m to 4,070 m and these are probably one of the highest settlements in the world. There are 130 gompas in Dolpa which speaks volumes for the religious nature of its inhabitants.
The trek is enlivened by the sight of yak caravans that even today travel long distances through difficult terrain to barter goods.
Closely linked with Tibet, the people speak Tibetan, have strong Mongoloid features, maintain their Tibetan culture with monasteries that follow closely the Buddhism of Tibet.
The proximity with Tibet has ensured that little has changed since their forefathers crossed the border into Nepal. This trek is an opportunity to meet people who follow a lifestyle that goes back centuries.
These unexplored, high altitude valleys were not opened until 1989. Isolated by the difficult topography, the people in this region have preserved their lifestyle, remaining almost untouched by the trappings of modern society.
Dolpa falls among Restricted Areas. Therefore, trekkers require Trekking Permit from the Department of Immigration in addition to the TIMS card to trek to this region. Trekkers should be physically fit as there are long and strenuous stretches en route.

one of them is KANJIROBA Himal.
. Kanjiroba Himal lies in western part of Nepal at Dolpo region. There are more than twenty five years has passed since we were captivated by a remarkable high mountain range, 40km far away to the north, seen from the top of Tso Karpo Kang (6556m) in the northeastern corner of Kanjiroba Himal in 1971. Name of these mountains was quite unknown at that time, we had only a vogue idea they must be on the Nepal -Tibet border and in the easternmost part of Mugu district. On old maps by Survey of India, from 1930's, afterward, the name Kubi Kangri was roughly given to these mountain ranges, probably from the data of Sven Hedin's expedition in 1907. How to access to these mountains has long been the center of our interest thereafter

Himalayan Yak

YAKS
Nepal is a  very beautiful country many people like to travel in this country. In Nepal there  are many  beautiful mountains. In mountains we can saw many wild animals one  of them is Yak.We can saw Yak in upper Dolpa.   Yaks are the mammals that live at the highest altitudes in the world. They can climb up as high as 20,000 ft (around 6,100 m). Yaks tend to live at high altitudes because of their thick coat and vulnerability to diseases. In fact, yaks normally cannot live below 10,000 ft above sea level. The lungs of yaks are usually large in order to absorb more oxygen at higher altitudes. Yaks can weigh up to 1,200 pounds (550 kg).

Yaks are among the most useful of Himalayan animals. Without them the famous Trans Himalayan trade between Nepal and Tibet would have been impossible. One yak can carry up to 220 lb (100 kg) of load, and walk over the dangerous trails and snow- covered high Himalayan passes. In addition to being beasts of burden, yaks are used to plough fields, provide meat, milk, butter, wool for clothing, and dung for fue. drink a live yak's fresh blood etc.
The Sherpas of Nepal generally call the males of the species "Yak" and the females "Nak", or "Dri". But for the outsider, the word Yak represents the entire species.
The hair of the yak is used to make ropes, sacks, blankets, and tents. Nothing is wasted, in fact even the horns are used to adorn doorways and rooftops.
